Hector Rex

Hector Rex is a Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, the Inquisition’s daemon-hunting order, recorded at the Judgement of Hellenus and the Siege of Vraks. He held authority over Imperial Navy forces, Space Marine Chapters and the Grey Knights, the Chamber Militant of his Ordo, and his known activity lies in the Segmentum Obscurus during the early forty-first millennium. His birth world, early career and personal history are not recorded, so he is known chiefly through the campaigns in which his authority was exercised.

In 801.M41 Rex is recorded as assuming direct control of the Imperial Navy’s 279th Assault Armada at Hellenus and ordering the world’s mutant population purged. A strike force drawn from the Iron Lords, Skull Bearers and Sons of Guilliman was assembled to confront the enemy holding the capital; during the fighting the Iron Lords contingent became tainted by the same gene-taint and was purged in turn by its fellow Space Marines. From 813.M41 to 830.M41 Rex appears among the Imperial commanders of the Siege of Vraks in the Scarus Sector, following the rebellion of Apostate Cardinal-Astra Xaphan. There he served alongside Lord High Commander Carab Culln of the Red Scorpions, Supreme Grand Master Azrael of the Dark Angels and Brother-Captain Arvann Stern of the Grey Knights. When the Khornate warlord Zhufor of the Skulltakers, aided by The Sanctified, summoned the Bloodthirster An’ggrath the Unbound, Rex is recorded as leading a Grey Knights force that banished the Greater Daemon, he himself wielding the daemon-slaying sword Arias in single combat. After the world was retaken in 830.M41, its population destroyed, he ordered Vraks Prime placed under interdiction as a Perdita world.

Rex is among the more fully attested Ordo Malleus figures of his era, and both of his recorded episodes show Inquisitorial authority exercised through purge and quarantine rather than conventional battle. The Judgement of Hellenus in 801.M41 precedes the Siege of Vraks by twelve years, and the two bind him to the Segmentum Obscurus, with Vraks Prime as the fixed point on the map. His contemporaries on the graph include Xaphan, Zhufor, Azrael, Carab Culln and Arvann Stern. Accounts do not record his fate or whereabouts after the interdiction of Vraks, and his status in the current era is therefore listed as unknown.
