Lord Admiral Ravensburg

Lord Admiral Ravensburg commanded Battlefleet Gothic during Abaddon’s 12th Black Crusade, the conflict known as the Gothic War. He directed the Navy’s defence of the sector from Port Maw, and his name became associated with convoy warfare, the protection and interdiction of shipping in the void.

The campaign obliged him to fight a war of escorts and shipyards against Chaos fleets that used planets as ammunition. Ravensburg did not seek a personal engagement with Abaddon. He instead counted hulls, sustaining the fleet’s strength until the balance of losses favoured Terra. Gethsemane and the prolonged attrition of the wider Gothic War remain the actions the Navy teaches from this period.

The sector survived, which stands as the principal measure of his command. His standing rests on that outcome and on the method by which he achieved it, rather than on any single victory over the Despoiler.
