Gothic Sector

The Gothic Sector is a region of the Segmentum Obscurus and the war zone of Abaddon’s 12th Black Crusade, known as the Gothic War. It takes the form of a cube of sub-sectors around Port Maw, the Cyclops Cluster and the Blackstone Fortresses, and lies close to the Ultima border.

Abaddon’s forces sought the Blackstones, fortress-weapons capable of destroying a star. Worlds such as Schindlegeist, Tarantis and Brinaga were of secondary importance to that objective. Eldar corsairs, Orks and traitor battlegroups also operated within the same area during the conflict. Sub-sectors including Orar, Gethsemane, Lysades, Bhein Morr and Quinrox Sound still bear the marks of the Gothic War on later charts. The sector was not emptied afterwards; it continued to be inhabited alongside the wreckage.

The Gothic Sector remains significant because Blackstone architecture and Battlefleet Gothic are both associated with it rather than with Cadia. Unofficial fan maps retain the Segmentum Obscurus as its parent region and do not treat the whole sector as a single location at Port Maw.
