Anphelion Project
The Anphelion Project was a classified Ordo Xenos operation on Beta Anphelion IV, the fourth moon of Beta Anphelion in Segmentum Tempestus, intended to study captured Tyranid organisms and seek a means of countering their rapid evolution. In 850.M41 all contact with the research facility ceased. An investigative force of Red Scorpions, Adeptus Mechanicus biologis and Imperial Guard, led by Inquisitor Solomon Lok, landed on the moon; the Red Scorpions contingent of the First and Sixth Companies was commanded by Carab Culln, then Commander of the Chapter’s First Company. Terminators sweeping the laboratory complexes found that containment fences had failed and that Tyranids had overrun the three-hundred-man garrison. Fighting spread across the labs and the command facility as Genestealers, Raveners, a Trygon and Harridans closed on the Imperial forces. Culln’s battle-brothers rescued surrounded Terminators against Lok’s orders and held the command complex long enough to receive Chapter orders to evacuate only the Red Scorpions. The requisitioned transport refused Lok’s requests for extraction, leaving the Inquisitor and the remaining Imperial survivors on the moon as further Hierophant bio-titans approached. Lok is recorded as slain; the moon was afterwards subjected to Exterminatus on the order of Inquisitor Lord Varius of the Ordo Hereticus. Culln’s decision to withdraw his own force alone earned him lasting enmity among some factions of the Ordo Xenos.
