Battle of Fire and Blood
The Battle of Fire and Blood was the last major battle of the Vinculus Crusade. It was fought on Pelegeron IV, a former mining world in the Pelegeron System, against a Chaos cult that had risen there. No narrower year than late M41 is recorded. An Imperial force under Inquisitor Vinculus, including Black Templars and Battle Sisters of the Order of the Bloody Rose, assaulted the cult fortress Apex after the cultists sealed other approaches. High Marshal Ludoldus led Sword Brethren at the gate. After the cultists were routed, a daemon that had possessed Vinculus killed Canoness Jasmine and Emperor’s Champion Ulricus before Ludoldus weakened it with an Antioch orb and the Imperials destroyed the creature. Sword Brother Grimaldus distinguished himself by saving Ludoldus’s life. The deed drew the notice of Reclusiarch Mordred. After the battle Grimaldus was inducted into the Chaplaincy, and Mordred became his mentor.
