Merek Grimaldus is Reclusiarch of the Black Templars, the priest Helbrecht left in Helsreach when the hive needed someone who would not evacuate. He dug his grave in that temple and crawled out of the rubble carrying the relics, which is how Armageddon learned his name.
He was Mordred's student before he was a hero, a Sword Brother before he was a Chaplain, and he still treats faith as a weapon you hold at the front. The Celestial Lions found him less of a politician than they needed and more of a witness than they wanted.
Hero of Helsreach is not a pageant title. It is a casualty report that came out the other side.
