Battle of Port Demesnus

The Battle of Port Demesnus was fought at the close of the forty-first millennium. Watch Captain Artemis and the Deathwatch attacked Eldrad Ulthran and the Masque of the Midnight Sorrow there during a ritual intended to awaken Ynnead. Despite its name, the fighting took place on Coheria, the crystal moon of Port Demesnus, rather than on the surface of Port Demesnus itself. Accounts differ on the result. One holds that a stasis bomb, unforeseen by Eldrad, halted the ritual, that he retreated, and that the energies gathered for the ritual were lost to the void and later found Yvraine. The other holds that Artemis disrupted the ritual without wholly defeating Eldrad, and that the failed rite nonetheless roused Ynnead at the moment Yvraine died in the Crucibael. Before the battle, Eldrad had projected his consciousness to the defence of the Black Library, a psychic rather than a bodily visit.
