Battle of the Phalanx

The Battle of the Phalanx was fought in 999.M41 aboard the Imperial Fists fortress-monastery Phalanx at the opening of the 13th Black Crusade. Warsmith Shon’tu, having survived the Fall of Malodrax, allied with the Daemon Prince Be’lakor and boarded the vessel through a warp rift, seeking to turn its firepower against the Imperial Palace on Terra. Captain Tor Garadon held the Phalanx with the newly rebuilt 3rd Company and a remnant of the 1st while Chapter Master Vorn Hagen and First Captain Darnath Lysander were absent on crusade. When Iron Warriors machine-curses infected sections of the station, Garadon withdrew his forces and ordered the Phalanx’s own batteries to blast the corrupted mass away, losing some tenth of the vessel. He set a blind heading into the Immaterium, then gathered the survivors in the Chamber of Storms. As Be’lakor joined the final assault, the Legion of the Damned arrived; Be’lakor was forced to withdraw mid-duel with Garadon, and Terminator Sergeant Furan slew Shon’tu. Diverting from a return to Terra toward a Cadian distress hymnal, Garadon then took the damaged Phalanx to the Cadia System.
