Tor Garadon

Captain of the Imperial Fists 3rd Company, Captain of the Imperial Fists 2nd Company (formerly)

Also known as Captain Garadon, The Indomitable, The Bastion of Defiance

Homeworld: Callisto

Tor Garadon is Captain of the Imperial Fists 3rd Company, the Sentinels of Terra, and the longest-serving of the Chapter’s Battle Company captains. Lexicanum records that he was recruited from the orbitals of Callisto, a Galilean moon of Jupiter: his wealthy family were glad to see him depart, for fate had cursed him with a stubborn and straightforward nature. He is not of Inwit by attested origin. Titles attached to him include the Indomitable and the Bastion of Defiance. He remains active in the Era Indomitus, and after the opening of the Great Rift he crossed the Rubicon Primaris; with Darnath Lysander he is among the last Imperial Fists who served before the Rift formed.

In his first decade he earned commendations without promotion. During the Nosfer Planetstrike, when the 3rd Company was stranded behind Necron lines under Lord Zangeneb, he took command after Captain Opara was killed and led six surviving battle-brothers in rear assaults. Captain Julius Vogen later took him under his wing; by the time Garadon served as a Veteran Sergeant of the 1st Company the two were close, and he returned to the 3rd without hesitation. In 969.M41, during the Invasion of Taladorn against Warsmith Shon’tu, he was Vogen’s second-in-command; after a Maulerfiend killed Vogen he assumed command, destroyed the Daemon Engine, and — when Lysander again refused Ultramarines aid — formally accepted Captain Cato Sicarius’s offer and teleported Ultramarines Terminators into the fight. He later testified before Chapter Master Vladimir Pugh against Lysander’s reckless conduct. When Pugh assigned Lysander to rebuild the mauled 3rd as censure, Garadon served under him through the Crusade of Thunder: on the Magor Rift, at the Infestation on Drashin, where Lysander gave him Tactical command, and at the Fall of Malodrax in 971.M41, where he boarded Shon’tu’s war barque Tamunash and was rescued, wounded, by Lysander’s Terminators.

In 994.M41 he answered Sicarius’s call to defend the shrine world Victorix against remnants of Hive Fleet Kraken in the Triumph at Victorix. In 997.M41 Lysander requested his company for the Defence of Miral II against Hive Fleet Leviathan; Garadon’s Tactical and Devastator fire helped hold a fortified position for seven days. Made Captain of the 2nd Company that year, he cultivated ties with Sicarius, Colvane Brasch of the Invaders, Erasmus Tycho of the Blood Angels, and Draco of the Black Templars. After the Siege of Hydra Cordatus in 999.M41 annihilated the 3rd Company under Captain Eshara, Garadon left the 2nd with permission to rebuild the 3rd from Crusade of Thunder veterans.

Left on the Phalanx with the new company while Lysander and Chapter Master Vorn Hagen took five companies on crusade, he commanded the Battle of the Phalanx when Shon’tu and the Daemon Prince Be’lakor boarded the fortress-monastery. He ordered corrupted sections shot away, stood in the Chamber of Storms, and fought until the Legion of the Damned forced Be’lakor to withdraw. Diverting from Terra toward a Cadian distress signal, he took the Phalanx into the 13th Black Crusade, broke the Blackstone Fortress Will of Eternity with the vessel’s main batteries, fought on Cadia’s Elysion Fields beside Black Templars under Amalrich, and led the evacuation fleet away as Cadia fell. Back on Terra he struck at cult uprisings with the Custodian Valerian and opposed the Hexarchy Coup, boarding a traitor Navy flagship in Terminator armour after Chancellor Jek lowered its shields.

In the Indomitus era he fought the Battle of Xalladin against Waaagh! Boneskar, nearly coming to blows with Iron Hands Master of the Forge Feirros over the Brimstone Heart; recovered relics on the Relic World of Jovandira beside Adeptus Custodes and the Raven’s Watch against T’au excavators; and, on Guilliman’s order, led the 3rd Company with the Harakoni 117th against Fortress Perditum on Hanorio V. During the Fourth Tyrannic War he led a Solblade against Tyranid forces in the Bastior Sub-sector. Before crossing the Rubicon he bore the relic bolt pistol Spartean; as a Primaris Marine he wields the power fist Hand of Defiance and an armour-mounted grav-gun. The Phalanx remains the vessel on which his reputation as a siege captain was proven when the wall was a starship rather than stone.
