Boarding of the Grim Scythe

The Boarding of the Grim Scythe was an action by the Salamanders in M41 aboard the Grim Scythe, a Nurgle-infested space hulk whose habit of sliding into the warp and reappearing far from its last position leaves it without fixed coordinates. No year is recorded. The Forgefather Vulkan He’stan had followed a trail that led from a world afflicted by the Zombie Plague, through the Black Nebula, to the hulk. He believed that the Chthonic Hammer, a mining ship lost in the warp at about the time of the Primarch Vulkan’s disappearance and one on which Vulkan may have spent time, formed part of the hulk’s conglomerate of hulls. Answering his call for aid, the Salamanders strike cruiser Vulkan’s Wrath brought half of the 3rd Company and a supporting squad of Terminators. The boarding party entered the hulk by boarding torpedo and cut its way out of the surrounding wreckage with a multi-melta, He’stan going first through the breach. Warp contamination blinded the boarding party’s auspex, and the hulk was found to hold Plague Marines and plague zombies in the service of Nurgle. The Salamanders fought them through its corridors. No outcome of the search for the Chthonic Hammer is recorded.
