Cawl’s Great Work

Cawl’s Great Work on Sotha was the Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl’s expedition, in the Era Indomitus, to the homeworld of the Scythes of the Emperor in order to study the reawakening Necron beacon known as the Pharos and to draw from it a galactic map of Blackstone deposits. He came with elements of the rebuilt Chapter and with Decimus Felix. Genestealer cultists who had earlier helped ruin Sotha infiltrated the Chapter’s serfs; fighting followed in which Firstborn Scythes died and Chapter Master Thracian was mortally wounded before Cawl’s controlled Canoptek scarabs destroyed the patriarch. Within the Pharos, the C’tan Zarhulash agreed to help remove the device’s heart and data in exchange for freedom. Cawl obtained the map he sought, then destroyed the Pharos and teleported Zarhulash to the far side of the galaxy. He left geoforming teams and vast servitor labour to begin restoring Sotha’s biosphere from vault samples, and committed the work to his wider design of closing the Great Rift by mastering Blackstone and pylon technology.
