Eisenhorn on Lethe Eleven during Darknight
Eisenhorn’s pursuit of Beldame Sadia on Lethe Eleven took place during Darknight, a fortnight-long eclipse of the star by the moon Kux. The hive treated the eclipse as a festival period, characterised as a “holiday of knives”. The catacombs of Saint Kiodrus served as the route of the chase, while the population of the hive continued to observe the eclipse as a festival. Sadia used the darkness as cover. Eisenhorn treated the fixed duration of the eclipse as a limit on the time available to him. Darknight ended after its two weeks. The catacombs retained their dead. The episode stands as a pursuit conducted under the conditions of a planetary eclipse, in which the same darkness served the pursued as concealment and the pursuer as a deadline. At the age of thirty-four, Interrogator Gideon Ravenor played a decisive part in locating the Beldame Sadia, pursuing her through the undercity reaches of Lethe alongside Gregor Eisenhorn’s retinue. The action nearly cost him his life: a haemonculus glaive opened him close to evisceration, a wound from which he was slow to recover. Arianhrod Esw Sweydyr was lost in the same engagement, a casualty the retinue felt keenly in its aftermath.
