First Battle for Pavonis

The First Battle for Pavonis was Uriel Ventris’s first campaign as captain of the Ultramarines 4th Company, on the Imperial mining world of Pavonis. He assumed command after the death of his predecessor, Idaeus, in the fighting on Thracia. On Pavonis, Ventris and the 4th Company put down de Valtos’s rebellion at Tembra Ridge. There Ventris pulled the key runes from the Nightbringer’s sarcophagus. The Nightbringer is a C’tan. The C’tan escaped the tomb despite the removal of the runes. Tembra Ridge is a site on Pavonis itself rather than a separate world, and the episode marked Ventris’s first test of command as captain.
