Helbrecht Cythor Fiend Crusade

The Helbrecht Cythor Fiend Crusade was a Black Templars campaign against the Cythor Fiends in the Ghoul Stars, a region also called the Ghost Stars. It is recorded against that region, not against one named planet. In 989.M41, after the death of High Marshal Kordhel, the Marshals chose Helbrecht as High Marshal, and he immediately led this crusade. Over the next eight years the crusade exterminated the xenos populations of the outlying systems. One account says the Fiends’ homeworlds were then found empty; another says the crusade reached the alien homeworld and found the core systems empty, with no trace of the aliens. No planet is named. The crusade was cut short when a request for aid came from Armageddon, because Ghazghkull Thraka had returned. A further account names the gas giant 9836-18 Grave Core, in the Ghoul Stars, as the former capital of the Cythor Fiends and as the eighteenth world taken in that crusade. Helbrecht’s force reached Grave Core, found it empty of the xenos, destroyed their orbital platforms, failed to destroy the planet itself, and set its atmosphere on fire. Death Spectres under Captain Naroosh accompanied the main force; the Imperials are recorded as having taken eighteen planets in the crusade before the call to Armageddon ended it.
