Hunt for the Shards of Magnus on Nikaea
During the Horus Heresy, in the 31st millennium, following the Burning of Prospero, Magnus the Red was broken into shards. Magnus ordered Ahzek Ahriman to recover an artefact known as the Iron Oculus and to assist in retrieving the scattered shards. Ahriman assembled a company for this task, comprising Sobek, Tolbek, Lucius, Sanakht, Ignis, Menkaura, and Hathor Maat. The search had earlier taken the company to Kamiti Sona, and then, aboard a vessel called the Reckoner, to Terra. On Nikaea, the company encountered a shard of Magnus that had taken on a violent character and had possessed the remembrancer Lemuel Gaumon. Ahriman had struck a bargain with a bound daemon named Aforgomon. To confront Gaumon, he allowed Aforgomon to possess Hathor Maat and drew further power from the daemon. Together with a portion of Aforgomon and a shard of Magnus recovered earlier on Terra, Ahriman overcame Gaumon. The shards of Magnus then merged, and in doing so carried the Thousand Sons back to the Planet of the Sorcerers, while the daemon Aforgomon vanished.
