Manachean War
The Manachean War is recorded as a conflict of the Horus Heresy era, fought at Manachea, in which forces loyal to the Emperor opposed the Warmaster Horus. It belongs to the campaigns of the Sons of Horus during the civil war, and it is best understood as one of the many regional engagements through which the Warmaster’s cause was pressed while the wider struggle for Terra took shape. The surviving record of the war is sparse, and its precise dates, its command structure and the scale of its individual battles are not firmly established. The war drew in both ground and Titan forces. Reaver-class Titans named Odrysian and Raxvalian, and Warhound-class Titans named Durasi and Scorillion, are listed among the engines of Legio Tempestus that fought in it. That Titan Legion divided in allegiance during the Heresy: one element followed Princeps Maximus Karania into the Warmaster’s service, while another remained loyal after the Schism of Mars. The record does not say on which side these particular engines fought, and this account therefore does not assign them one. On the Imperial side, the Solar Auxilia’s Agathon 1,522nd ‘Lord Marshal’s Own’ is recorded as having opposed the Warmaster during the war. The outcome is likewise thinly attested, but its aftermath can be traced through the survivors. Remnants of the Agathon 1,522nd, reconstituted as a composite sub-cohort, later joined the loyalist force gathered by the Iron Father Autek Mor, together with elements of the Imperial Fists and other Shattered Legion survivors. That force took part in the fighting against the World Eaters at Nashe’s World, including the Battle of Bodt. The Manachean War thus connects, through a single Auxilia formation, a campaign against the Warmaster to the later resistance of loyalists cut off from Imperial command. It also connects Legio Tempestus, whose divided loyalties are otherwise best known from Mars and the Siege of Terra, to a theatre where its Titans are recorded in action. Its nearest neighbours are the Sons of Horus and Warmaster Horus as principal adversary, Legio Tempestus as a participating Titan Legion, the Red Talons and Autek Mor as the later home of its surviving loyalists, and the Schism of Mars as the event that shaped Tempestus’s allegiances. Where accounts of the war’s cause, course or result differ or are silent, this page leaves the question open in preference to supplying detail that the established record does not contain.
