Pariah Nexus
The Pariah Nexus is a Necron-controlled region of the Nephilim Sector, Ultima Segmentum, contested since the Indomitus Crusade of M42. It takes its Imperial name from the Pariah gene, an aberrant human genetic trait that dulls the Warp (the psychic dimension underlying faster-than-light travel and sorcery), because the region itself is likewise markedly free of psychic and empyric influence. Necron records reportedly know it as the Contra-Empyric Nexus, while Imperial chroniclers have also styled it the Zone of Silence or the Nephilim Anomaly. The anomaly is artificial. At its centre, within the Xendu System, the Necrons raised an immense blackstone construction, linked to pylon arrays seeded across neighbouring systems by the Cryptek (a Necron artificer-sorcerer) Szeras and the Nihilakh Dynasty. Regarded as among the most ambitious feats of Necron cosmic engineering, the network sustains a field that suppresses the Immaterium across the surrounding stars. Imperial forces entered the region in strength when Battlegroup Kallides, part of the Indomitus Crusade, was sent to investigate it; those who advanced found themselves sapped by a draining malaise that Imperial troops named the Stilling, attributed to the pylon network itself. Investigation hardened into open war. Belisarius Cawl, an Archmagos (senior adept) of the Adeptus Mechanicus, committed his own Battle Group Hephaestus to the fighting, while the Necrons’ presence in the Nexus fractured into civil war between the Silent King, Szarekh, and the dynast Imotekh. Among the subsidiary actions fought within the Nexus was the Argovon Campaign, in which an Imperial task force under High Field Marshal Janred Remko Hynflagger engaged the Szarekhan and Oruskh Dynasties at the shrine world of Argolish, where the anti-empyric effect was recorded at its weakest and Necron warriors emerged directly from a Dolmen Gate, a Necron matter-transit portal.
