Master Lazarus

Lazarus is Master of the Dark Angels Fifth Company, Keeper of the Unseen Ritual and the first Primaris Space Marine in the Inner Circle. He holds the rank of captain within that body and prefers to give priority to the wider war over further hunts for the Fallen.

He assumed command of the Fifth Company after Balthasar died in the opening phase of the Great Rift. He was later nearly killed on Rimenok by Thousand Sorcery, which even a Dreadnought could not have withstood. The Chapter’s Apothecaries brought him through the Rubicon Primaris, and he emerged as the first Primaris in the Inner Circle and the first Dark Angel to complete that crossing.

His hostility towards Chaos originated in the Siege of the Fenris System, where, as a sergeant, he held corridors at the Rock with serfs. He continues to favour engagements of that kind, and he regards the pursuit of the Fallen as a matter that can be deferred while the Imperium is under general assault. He has voiced this position concerning Azrael, and the Chapter has not determined whether it reflects sound judgement or presents a difficulty.
