Razing of Astorgius

The Razing of Astorgius was a battle of the Fifth Sphere of Expansion fought in M42 for the Imperial cardinal world of Astorgius in the Thaxaril System of the Chalnath Expanse. The T’au first attempted to annex the world peacefully, sending representatives of each caste; their offer was refused and their heads were sent back to the fleet, and Commander Shadowsun resolved to make an example of the population. Secret contacts with middle-ranking officials had proved more successful, and by the time she invaded months later the world, riven by rival families, stood on the brink of civil war; Imperial resistance nonetheless remained strong, and her offers of surrender were refused. Learning that surrenders rose whenever sacred sites fell, and that Imperial propaganda boasted that no cathedra-city had yet fallen, she resolved to topple the greatest of them, Iglesor Magna. Its destruction, broadcast across the world, only hardened Imperial resolve, and she accepted that more blood would be spilled before the world could be taken. A large Genestealer Cult infestation on Astorgius went unrecognised by both sides throughout the campaign. A later account states that Shadowsun was victorious on Astorgius; the world’s ultimate status is otherwise unrecorded.
