Sak’trada Deeps Campaign

The Sak’trada Deeps Campaign was a Great Crusade war waged by the Iron Warriors under their primarch, Perturabo, against the Hrud in 999.M30. Fought across the Sak’trada Deeps, a region that included the Vulpa Straits, it was ordered by the War Council although the worlds of the Deeps were judged to hold little strategic value; Perturabo regarded the campaign as pointless but prosecuted it nonetheless. The Hrud’s manipulation of time and their entropic weaponry inflicted heavy losses on the IV Legion. Perturabo and Magos Tzurin Four eventually constructed a stasis field generator that negated much of the Hrud’s entropic effect, allowing the Iron Warriors to inflict severe casualties and driving the Hrud into a mass migration numbering in the billions. Thousands of migration vessels, accompanied by continent-sized warrens torn free of infested planets, overwhelmed the Iron Warriors’ fleet, and hundreds escaped. A temporal shockwave released by the Hrud then tore through the Legion’s ships; the flagship Iron Blood survived only by ramming a disabled sister vessel to break free, and the Iron Warriors needed a week to reassemble their scattered forces. The Legion lost more than thirty thousand warriors, with some Grand Companies destroyed outright and total losses put at over a fifth of its active strength. On Golghis the Grand Company of Warsmith Barabas Dantioch was lost before the planet was evacuated; Dantioch, prematurely aged by the Hrud’s weapons, questioned the campaign’s worth before Perturabo and was demoted to the garrison of Lesser Damantyne. Perturabo silently blamed the Emperor for the cost of the war. Shortly afterwards he received word that Olympia had risen in rebellion.
