Sameter veteran murders

The Sameter veteran murders were a series of killings in Urbitane on Sameter in 241.M41, investigated by Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn. The victims were civilians, and the perpetrators were survivors of the Sameter 9th Infantry. The survivors murdered civilians whom they believed to be warp-touched, that is, affected by the corrupting influence of the warp. The early signs of the killings resembled Chaos ritual, which led investigators to suspect a cult. The perpetrators proved instead to be broken Imperial Guard veterans, not cultists. Arbites support accompanied the final confrontation, in which Eisenhorn lost his left hand. The case is recorded as a correction of a false cult diagnosis rather than as a Chaos victory on Sameter. The initial reading of the evidence pointed to Chaos worship, but the murders originated with the delusions of former soldiers. For Eisenhorn, the confrontation resulted in the loss of his left hand.
