Siege of Hive Infernus

The Siege of Hive Infernus was fought in M42, during the Fourth War for Armageddon, at Hive Infernus, a hive city near the Equatorial Jungle on Armageddon Secundus. No narrower date than M42 is recorded. Ork forces besieged the hive, then the seat of Governor Agmund von Ruger, after Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka’s renewed invasion of Armageddon. When Operation Imperator reached the planet, its Space Marines were divided into five regional battle groups, and Chapter Master Tu’Shan of the Salamanders landed at Infernus as overseer of that theatre. He set up his command centre in the hive’s principal spire. His first task was to return the South Forge Complex, which produced arms for the Imperial forces on the planet and had been repeatedly sabotaged, to operation, while Deathskulls under Warboss Gorzog Skumloota prepared to move down the Krynnan Canal to seize it. A maniple of the Legio Metalica, Skitarii from Voss Prime, and Knights of House Drakhs held the Stygian Bulwark against any advance on the hive itself. To the east, Salamanders under Captain N’kelm held the ruins of the Diabolus Forge Complex in the Diablo Mountains to stop the Orks from outflanking the hive’s main defences. Salamanders of the 6th Company fought Ork tribes in the Equatorial Jungles and took Cerbera Base as their command post; in the Tanglesnare Depths, Salamanders fighting the Dredd Fang tribe under Warboss Urkfist suffered reverses, including the death of Lieutenant Vol’Shar. The siege of the hive was broken and Infernus became central to Imperial resistance on Armageddon, although the wider war continued without a recorded end.
