Slaying of the Great Beast of Sarum

The Slaying of the Great Beast of Sarum was an engagement of the Indomitus Crusade in which Lord High Commander Carab Culln of the Red Scorpions killed a Tyranid bioform of Hive Fleet Kraken known as the Great Beast of Sarum. The fighting took place at Sarum, the Maelstrom-side hell-forge already long associated with the Dark Mechanicum and with earlier wars of the Horus Heresy. Culln was so grievously wounded in the killing that his remains were returned to the Chapter bearing only the faintest signs of life; he was thereafter interred in a Relic Leviathan Dreadnought and continued to serve as Carab Culln the Risen. In the immediate aftermath Captains Casan Sabius and Sirae Karagon took de facto command of the Red Scorpions, Sabius directing the Chapter fleet’s disengagement from the hive fleet’s tendrils and a covering orbital bombardment that allowed the survivors to escape.
