Traitor General Gereon
Traitor General Gereon denotes the Chaos occupation of the Imperial world of Gereon and the covert hunt for the collaborator general concealed there. During the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, Gereon was overrun by forces of the Archenemy, among them the Blood Pact, and rather than being razed outright was retained as an occupied holding, its population subjected to prolonged subjugation. Among the occupiers’ assets was a former Imperial Guard commander, long presumed dead, who had in fact survived and defected to the enemy, offering the occupying command his knowledge of Imperial doctrine and dispositions; it was this figure whom Imperial forces came to know as the Traitor General. In response, a small Imperial task force, drawn from the Tanith First and Only under Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, was inserted covertly onto Gereon with orders to locate and eliminate the Traitor General before his intelligence could be exploited further by the Archenemy. Cut off from resupply and extraction, the operatives made contact with Gereon’s partisan underground and sustained a protracted clandestine campaign against the occupying garrison, gathering intelligence on the Traitor General’s whereabouts while evading Chaos patrols and the taint that pervaded the world. The operation on Gereon stands as one of the more prolonged irregular engagements associated with the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, illustrating both the vulnerability of occupied Imperial worlds to prolonged subjugation and the danger posed by senior officers turned traitor. The eventual confrontation with the Traitor General, and the wider partisan war waged alongside Gereon’s resistance, were subsequently accounted among the notable clandestine actions of the Crusade’s later years.
