Ibram Gaunt is Colonel-Commissar of the Tanith First and Only, the Ghosts, a regiment raised from a world that died while he was still trying to save it. Warmaster Slaydo left him a command on a deathbed. Gaunt turned survivors into a reconnaissance legend the Sabbat Worlds could not ignore.
He took cities by stealth, lost friends by the page, and rose to Lord Militant and First Lord Executor beside Warmaster Macaroth. Tanith is a name the Ghosts still wear like camouflage. The homeworld is gone. The regiment is not.
He is the other kind of commissar: the one who stands in the line instead of behind it. The Crusade needed both. It mostly got him.
