Vanishings of Fornax Aleph
The Vanishings of Fornax Aleph were the disappearance of the hive populations in 757.M41 and of General Jater Elbeth’s force in 758.M41. The first was discovered by Elbeth’s own expedition, and the second occurred after it had established a defensive position on the world. Operation Newfound sent Elbeth to Fornax Aleph in 757.M41. His force found the hives already empty of living inhabitants, with half-eaten meals and unfinished letters left where the population had been. Elbeth fortified his position and reported the absence to Slaydo. On the first day of 758 he vanished together with his entire force. The Iron Snakes, who arrived afterwards, found the streets empty and a Vitrian tank standing eighty storeys up. A polar meteor later released a daemon horde. Three hundred Iron Snakes held against the daemons until early 759 and prevailed. Recolonisation subsequently refilled the empty hives. Screams heard at night never wholly ceased.
