Ryza

Ryza is a forge world of the Adeptus Mechanicus, renowned across the Imperium as the plasma forge. Its priesthood treats every battle fought on or beside its dunes as a live trial of new weapons, and Ryza-pattern plasma armament equips Adeptus Astartes chapters and Imperial Guard regiments across the galaxy; among its closest clients are the Executioners and the Stormblades. Where the forge world of Metalica is remembered as the Imperium’s foremost supplier of bolter patterns, Ryza’s reputation rests on plasma technology, and the two are often held up as counterparts within the Mechanicus’ divided arms trade.

At the close of the Great Crusade, Ryza’s output ranked second only to Mars among the forge worlds, a standing that made it indispensable to the Emperor’s armies and, in turn, a prize the Traitor Mechanicum could not allow to remain loyal. It bore the cost of that standing during the Horus Heresy, when the schism among the Mechanicus priesthood turned its manufactoria and skitarii legions into contested ground alongside the wider war between Mars-aligned factions.

Two Ork Waaaghs and a daemon incursion have since ravaged its dunes in the millennia following the Heresy, each answered by the same doctrine that shaped Ryza’s founding: the priesthood field-tests plasma weapons in the very battles fought to defend the world that makes them. Ryza’s endurance through these assaults, without loss of its manufacturing rank, underscores its continuing importance to the Adeptus Mechanicus and to the chapters and regiments that depend on its arsenals.

Ryza’s location is recorded inconsistently: some older armour books place it in Segmentum Solar, whereas the working map of 40k Orrery places it in Segmentum Ultima, just east of Terra. Its ranking behind Mars during the Crusade era, and its recurring role as a battleground in the Heresy and after, mark it as one of the Imperium’s foremost centres of weapons manufacture and a fixed point where the plasma forge’s output, its wars, and its clients among the Space Marine chapters all intersect.
