Daemon invasion after the Great Rift

The daemon invasion after the Great Rift was an attack by daemons on Ryza, a forge world in Segmentum Ultima, east of Terra. Ryza is known as the plasma forge. The invasion is recorded as one of three major assaults that have ravaged the planet’s dunes since the Horus Heresy, the other two being Ork Waaaghs, which are large-scale Ork invasions. At the close of the Great Crusade, Ryza ranked second only to Mars among the forge worlds. It bore the cost of that standing during the Horus Heresy. Its priesthood treats every battle as an opportunity to test weapons, and the world is associated with the Executioners and the Stormblades. The available record does not describe the course or duration of the daemon invasion, nor the forces that opposed it. The invasion forms part of the later history of a world that was among the foremost centres of weapons manufacture during the Crusade. The priesthood’s practice of testing weapons in battle remains Ryza’s defining characteristic. The location of the world is recorded inconsistently: some older armour books place it in Segmentum Solar, whereas the working map of 40k Orrery places it in Segmentum Ultima, just east of Terra.
