Skalathrax

Skalathrax is a daemon world in the Eye of Terror, known as the site of the battle between the World Eaters and the Emperor’s Children. It is recorded as the place where the World Eaters, the Twelfth Legion, ceased to function as a unified Legion, and where Khârn, one of their captains, took the action that broke them. Some cartographic references place the world within the Ghost Stars region of the Eye, though the warp-touched geography of the Eye makes any fixed position uncertain.

The world is defined by its extremes. The Emperor’s Children, the Third Legion, had established themselves in a temperate pocket of the planet, sheltered from conditions that prevailed across most of its surface. The World Eaters, the Twelfth Legion, assailed that position and came close to overrunning it. The fighting was halted less by either side’s tactics than by the arrival of a night of lethal cold, which forced both Legions to seek whatever shelter remained. Khârn then set fire to that shelter, burning friend and foe alike out of it.

The engagement joins two Legions whose relationship had been shaped by rivalry and shared allegiance to the Traitor cause during and after the Horus Heresy. Lucius was among the champions of the Third Legion present at the battle, and his presence ties the encounter to the wider history of the Emperor’s Children in the Eye. On the World Eaters’ side, Khârn’s role connects Skalathrax to the Legion’s primarch, Angron, and to the fragmentation of the Twelfth Legion into separate warbands. Accounts differ on the motives and consequences of Khârn’s act, and the surviving record should be read with that caution.

On the Orrery map, Skalathrax serves as the anchor for the World Eaters against Emperor’s Children timeline hook. Its neighbours in the graph are the Eye of Terror, the World Eaters, the Emperor’s Children, Khârn and Lucius. In the present era it remains a daemon world within the Eye, and there is no record of any lasting occupation of it by either Legion.
