Tanith System

The Tanith System is a forested system of the Sabbat Worlds, charted on the Pacificus/Tempestus line, whose principal world grew walking nalwood trees. The designation is a mixed-segmentum one, and the system served as a source of Imperial Guard recruits.

Warmaster Slaydo sent Ibram Gaunt to the system to raise three Guard regiments. On the day of founding, a Chaos splinter fleet burned the forests. Only the Tanith First left the system, and the regiment, known as the Ghosts, has served as a ghost regiment since. Its soldiers retain a capacity for stealth and an unfailing sense of direction, which are attributed to the trees.

The system is now regarded as a grave, and not as a recruiting world that continues to pay a tithe. Its principal significance is as the home to which the Ghosts cannot return. Unofficial summaries retain the mixed-segmentum parent designation and do not posit a surviving nalwood hive.
