The Halo Stars

The Halo Stars are a sparsely charted region on the outer rim of the Segmentum Obscurus, bordering the Calixis Sector and the Koronus Expanse. Its suns are thin and ancient, and the Imperium regards the region as haunted; this reputation is distinct from that of the Ghost Stars, a separate expanse with which the Halo Stars are not synonymous. The Koronus Expanse and the Calixis Sector frontier both run up against this dark reach, making it a shared edge for explorators and rogue traders operating from either jurisdiction.

Within the Halo Stars lies the Halo Scar, a zone where expeditions frequently fail to return, and Imperial losses there are recorded rather than explained. During the late 41st millennium, Magos Dominus Kotov’s Ark Mechanicus Speranza entered the Halo Stars on an expedition oriented toward Exnihilo and a structure referred to as the Breath of the Gods, accompanied by contemporaries including the rogue trader Roboute Surcouf and the archmagos Lexell Kotov’s own retinue of tech-priests. This voyage anchors the Halo Stars in Imperial memory as a destination for archeotech-seeking Explorator fleets willing to risk the Scar’s toll.

Furibundus, Concanid, and the Weeping and Turbulent stars are among the principal sites studied within the region, each contributing to a picture of a frontier defined more by disappearance than by settlement. The Halo Stars remain the unsettled edge of the Segmentum Obscurus: unofficial charts retain Obscurus as the parent region and do not merge the Halo Stars into Calixis, preserving the distinction between a lawless deep-space expanse and the administered sector beside it. The Halo Scar’s reputation persists into the present era, continuing to account for the loss of Imperial expeditions that venture too far into the dark.
