Tyran System

The Tyran System is an Eastern Fringe system in the Ultima Segmentum that gave the Tyranids their name before a hive fleet consumed it in 745.M41. Until that year it was a little-noted Explorator address, chiefly known for its ocean world.

In 745.M41 a hive fleet consumed the system’s seas and biomass, and its name was lost with them. Inquisitor Kryptman found the lifeless remnant afterwards. The Imperium has used the name Tyranids for the xenos species ever since. The system is the world from which that name derives. It is distinct from later swarm fronts such as Octarius or Tarsis Ultra, and it is not a second Tyran in any other segmentum.

The name of the Tyran System has passed to every later hive fleet, which is the source of its continuing importance. Summaries place it in the Ultima Segmentum and treat it as a dead world rather than a living ocean.
