Colour Sergeant Kell
Colour Sergeant
Also known as Agun Kell
Homeworld: Cadia
Colour Sergeant Kell is the taciturn bodyguard and second to Gaunt of the Tanith First-and-Only, the Imperial Guard regiment called the Ghosts.
Kell is recorded as Cadian by origin rather than Tanith, seconded to Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt at the regiment’s founding in the aftermath of Tanith’s destruction. Where the rank and file draw on the woodsman traditions of a lost homeworld, Kell brings a Cadian soldier’s discipline and a close-protection specialist’s instincts, functioning less as a line officer than as Gaunt’s personal shield, enforcer, and silent counsel. He is described as economical in speech and lethal in close-quarters work, a knife-fighter who prefers proximity to his commander over independent command of troops. Across the regiment’s long campaign in the Sabbat Worlds, he moves wherever Gaunt moves, from command posts to the forward line, a fixed presence beside a colonel who is frequently at odds with his own superiors.
Kell’s standing rests on constancy rather than rank: among contemporaries such as Major Rawne, Sergeant Varl, and the regiment’s commissars, he is the one figure whose loyalty to Gaunt is never presented as conditional. His place in the Ghosts’ chronology runs continuously from the regiment’s formation through its subsequent campaigns, binding his fate to Gaunt’s own and marking him, in later tradition, as the clearest embodiment of the bond between the Tanith First-and-Only and the commander who forged it from a world’s ashes.
