2nd Black Crusade
The Second Black Crusade, also known as the Cursing of Corona, began in 597.M32 when Abaddon led his forces against the newly fortified Cadian Gate. The fighting on Cadia itself lasted five years before the line was held. At Belis Corona, Abaddon launched a diversion that destroyed the system’s naval shipyards and dozens of Imperial Navy cruisers, while on an outer moon he invoked a curse intended to lie dormant and awaken centuries later. At Nemesis Tessera, his Black Legion assaulted an Inquisition fortress and freed daemons held captive within it. Abaddon himself teleported to the surface and toppled the Eldritch Needles, a blackstone pylon standing there. The Word Bearers, though not formally allied to the crusade, separately attacked Imperial cruisers in the same region. Abaddon then withdrew to the Eye of Terror. One record described the outcome as an Imperial tactical victory, holding that Abaddon nonetheless achieved his objectives. Another account held that he was forced to retreat once Cadia had held against him. Both versions were recorded, and neither was preferred over the other.
