Battle for Periremunda

The Battle for Periremunda was a campaign fought on Periremunda, a world of inhabited plateaux rising above volcanic lowlands. Sources place the campaign about six months after the Simia Orichalcae campaign, within the span 931–936.M41, but assign it no year of its own. Commissar Ciaphas Cain landed with the Valhallan 597th to suppress an uprising on the planet and discovered a genestealer infestation. He was drawn into Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Amberley Vail’s case concerning the Shadowlight, an ancient artefact, as a Tyranid hive fleet approached the system. Vail was present on Periremunda throughout the fighting. In golden power armour she cut into a hybrid ambush that had trapped Cain and Jurgen on the way to a meeting with the Arbites, then with her psyker Rakel finished the hunt for the genestealer patriarch whose brood-call had already summoned a Tyranid splinter toward the world. Parallel to that cleansing she pursued the rogue Ordo Hereticus inquisitor Ernst Stavros Killian and Magos Metheius, who had stolen the Shadowlight from Perlia’s Valley of Daemons and were testing it on Chaos cultists under the protection of Sororitas misled by Killian on the Gavarrone plateau. At the Sororitas convent on Gavarrone she revealed Killian’s excommunication to the canoness, answered Cain’s call when Killian loosed a captive Lictor as a beacon for the swarm, and recovered the Shadowlight as the plateau fell. She then ordered an orbital lance barrage that sheared the convent grounds from Gavarrone, ending both the Tyranid concentration and Killian’s laboratory. The artefact returned with her to Perlia.
