Ciaphas Cain

Ciaphas Cain is a commissar of the Astra Militarum who became a Hero of the Imperium by accident, self-preservation, and a very patient aide named Jurgen. He insists every medal is a misunderstanding. The Departmento Munitorum has not taken the medals back.

He served with the Valhallan 597th through wars against tyranids, necrons, and Chaos, always aiming for the safest billet and arriving at the crisis instead. Amberley Vail edited his memoirs. The edits are part of why anyone believes him.

Whether he is still alive depends on which archive you trust. The legend is already doing the work. He would call that the first sensible outcome of his career.
