Dulan Campaign
The Dulan Campaign was a Great Crusade war that ended in 870.M30 with the Imperial capture of Dulan, throneworld of the Faash civilisation ruled by the Tyrant Durath. Dulan, meaning ‘Earth’ in the local tongue, was a red, hyper-industrial fortress world encircled by a great iron defence halo, its capital the Crimson Fortress in the northern hemisphere. Durath refused Imperial compliance, and the Space Wolves and Dark Angels launched a joint assault at the campaign’s close. Leman Russ sought to kill Durath himself after an insult to his honour. Both Legions, each led by its primarch, stormed the rebels’ fortress; Russ burst into the throne room to find Lion El’Jonson already beheading the Tyrant. Angry that the kill was not his, Russ struck the Lion; the two fought for a week or more until Russ laughed at the futility of the quarrel, and the Lion, taking the laugh as mockery, knocked Russ unconscious and left with his Legion. The feud between Space Wolves and Dark Angels, and later between their Chapters, is traced to this clash. Later custom held that when the two forces met they nominated champions for an honour duel, a practice still attested in M41.
