Golgothan Slaughter

The Golgothan Slaughter was an eleven-year Great Crusade campaign waged by Angron and the World Eaters’ 13th Expeditionary Fleet through the Golgothan Sector on the edge of the Maelstrom. Most Imperial explorers avoided the region; Angron did not. Forty-eight worlds were ravaged and seven xenos species extinguished before the campaign’s first major engagement, the Siege of Sarum, entered Legion legend. Sarum, an Adeptus Mechanicus station under the warlike Redjak, was under siege by the Brotherhood of Ruin—an abhuman cyborg empire reinforced by Ork mercenaries—when the World Eaters arrived. Angron’s fleet smashed the orbital blockade in close-quarters void war, then dropped some fifteen thousand legionaries onto the surface. When the first drop threatened to be overrun, cyclonic torpedoes and a second wave led by Angron himself, with Legio Audax Titans in support, broke the Brotherhood and Ork hosts. The Mechanicum defenders emerged only after the killing had turned the tide. In the months that followed, the World Eaters made Sarum their forward operations base, and Angron turned his wrath upon the Priests of Sarum themselves across the remaining years of the Golgothan war. Sarum later supplied the XII Legion through the Horus Heresy and was visited again by Perturabo when he sought Angron for the Ullanor muster.
