Second Siege of Perlia

The Second Siege of Perlia was a campaign fought on Perlia during the 13th Black Crusade. The Perlia article, the Second Siege article, and Cain’s biography dated the campaign to 999.M41. The chronology article instead placed the memoir’s events in 002.M42–005.M42, with the caveat that M42 is sometimes used as a placeholder for Black Crusade dating. Commissar Ciaphas Cain, who had retired to teach at a Schola Progenium on Perlia, was recalled to lead the planetary militia and killed the Chaos Warmaster Varan. Necrons subsequently took the Shadowlight. During the siege Amberley Vail directed her rogue trader Orelius to extract the Shadowlight and sent Cain orders to hold the Mechanicus shrine or get the artefact off-world. She was not among the ground defenders while Varan pressed the attack. After Necrons materialised, annihilated the Chaos host, and absconded with the Shadowlight, she came to Perlia in person: a Deathwatch team under her command swept the emptied shrine and the Necrons’ hidden asteroid base, and she debriefed Cain privately on the loss, accepting that the artefact had at least been denied to Chaos.
