War for Rynn’s World
The War for Rynn’s World was the Ork invasion of the Crimson Fists’ homeworld in the Segmentum Pacificus, recorded as occurring in 999.M41. Rynn’s World was the recruiting ground and fortress-monastery seat of the Crimson Fists, a Chapter descended from the Imperial Fists, and the war is remembered chiefly for the near-destruction of that Chapter on its own soil. It falls in the closing years of the 41st Millennium, within the same period of Ork resurgence that produced the Third War for Armageddon, and it is generally treated as one of the most severe blows suffered by any Space Marine Chapter in that era. The invasion was led by the Ork Warlord Kranon the Relentless, whose WAAAGH! reached Rynn’s World largely undetected. Accounts record that the Orks struck first at the fortress-monastery itself, using an assault that destroyed much of the Chapter’s defences and armoury and killed the greater part of the Crimson Fists before they could deploy in strength. The surviving Space Marines, under Chapter Master Pedro Kantor, were reduced to a small remnant and fought alongside the planet’s defence forces and Imperial Guard units, conducting a fighting withdrawal and a prolonged struggle to hold the Orks away from the populated regions of the world. The Orks were ultimately defeated and Rynn’s World remained in Imperial hands, but the cost to the Crimson Fists was severe. The Chapter was left far below its nominal strength of one thousand battle-brothers and faced a long period of recruitment and rebuilding, with the loss of its fortress-monastery affecting its capacity to do so. Later tradition places Kantor at the centre of that recovery, and the war remains the defining event in the Chapter’s modern history. On the Orrery map it is anchored to Rynn’s World, and on the timeline it sits alongside the wider Ork campaigns of the late 41st Millennium and the Crimson Fists’ lineage from the Imperial Fists.
