Caliban System

The Caliban System is the Dark Angels’ home star system in the Caliban Sub-sector, now consisting chiefly of The Rock and the wreckage of Caliban. The planet was formerly a forested death world, a category of planet whose environment is hazardous to its inhabitants. It no longer exists as a single body.

Knightly orders hunted in the forests of Caliban before the First Legion built a fortress-monastery there and recruited from the planet’s population. Caliban broke apart when Lion El’Jonson returned from the Heresy. Luther’s rebellion completed the destruction that the Great Beasts had begun. The fortress-monastery survived as The Rock, a mobile battle-station that the Dark Angels still regard as their home, although the system it belongs to is empty.

The system remains significant because the Dark Angels’ secret war originated there, rather than on a later recruiting world. Unofficial fan maps retain the system despite the loss of the planet, since the origin of the Inner Circle lies in the ruined system rather than on a living world.
