Fortis Binary

Fortis Binary is a Sabbat Worlds forge complex that Chaos forces converted into some four hundred kilometres of trenches and ruined manufactories. Its industrial installations, once given over to Imperial production, were remade into a fortified battlefield during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, holding the line as ground contested between the Imperium and the forces occupying the Sabbat sector.

General Dravere ordered the Tanith First-and-Only, the regiment known as Gaunt’s Ghosts, to assault the position, an operation expected to cost the regiment its lives. In the course of the engagement the Ghosts disrupted a rite being performed by the Shriven, the Chaos cultists holding the forge, which was intended to convert the attacking Guardsmen into daemonhosts, human bodies given over to inhabitation by daemons. The action stands as one of the costlier operations undertaken by the Tanith during the crusade, and ties Fortis Binary into the regiment’s wider service record under Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt.

Once liberated, Fortis Binary resumed its productive role and raised new Guard regiments for General Van Voytz, restoring it to the Imperial order of battle it had been torn from. The forge world is thus recorded both as the site of a costly Tanith action against the Shriven and as a later source of fresh troops for the Sabbat Worlds campaign, binding its place on the map to two distinct moments in the crusade’s timeline.
