Hlaine Larkin is the Tanith First's sniper, a former nalwood hunter whose hands shake until the scope comes up and then do not. The Ghosts call him Mad because the alternative is admitting how much of the regiment's luck is one man with a long-las.
He wounded Iron Warriors on Fortis Binary, shot Inquisitor Heldane in the throat on the way to Menazoid, and spent years in a private war with Lijah Cuu that ended on Herodor too late to save Corbec. Gereon taught him to turn Brostin's fuel tanks into artillery.
Tanith is gone. Larkin is still the woods. Gaunt points him at officers, daemons, and anything else that needs to stop being a problem at eight hundred metres. The shake is not a flaw. It is the rest of the man waiting for work.
