Gyros-Thravian

Gyros-Thravian was an Ork world of the Ullanor era and the stronghold of Gharkul Blackfang. It is recorded chiefly for a single engagement in which Ork forces very nearly defeated three Astartes commanders acting together.

Horus, Rogal Dorn and Mortarion attacked the world jointly, and Gharkul’s forces came close to overcoming them. The Emperor then intervened, leading a thousand Custodians (the Emperor’s personal guard) in from the Bucephelus. Gharkul died on a ruined Gargant, a colossal Ork war machine. Three Custodians fell in the fighting, and their names were entered on the Emperor’s plate.

Gyros-Thravian is significant as an example of Ork resistance strong enough to require the Emperor’s personal involvement. 40k Orrery does not maintain a dedicated planet page for it and marks its location with an unofficial pin in the Ultima region.
