Ithaka

Ithaka is the ocean homeworld of the Iron Snakes Chapter in Segmentum Obscurus, also known as the Cradle of Snakes. It lies in its own named system, the Ithaka system, and is not classed under a general Segmentum Obscurus heading.

The planet’s reefs, waterborn clans and kelp cities continue to supply battle-brothers to the Chapter of Seydon as a tithe, that is, a levy of recruits owed to the Chapter. Dan Abnett’s novel *Brothers of the Snake* depicts the world through its island-towns and waterborn pilots, and portrays a Chapter that treats the sea as a second fortress-monastery. Recruits come from the water, while the Chapter’s oaths come from the rock.

Ithaka remains significant as the Iron Snakes’ oceanic home, and reference summaries record it with the Ithaka system as its parent and the Cradle of Snakes as its alias. It should not be confused with Ithacas, a Necron dynasty, nor with the Necron world of Antikef. It is likewise a separate location from any Tempestus ocean world.
