Macragge System

The Macragge System is the capital star system of Ultramar, the Ultramarines’ home system, and the location of the Fortress of Hera. The fortress anchors the Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar. Macragge is the principal world of the system. The charted heart of Roboute Guilliman’s realm also includes the moons and neighbouring bodies Formaska, Laphis, Ardium, Thulium and Nova Thulium.

Hive Fleet Behemoth was defeated at the Battle of Macragge, at the threshold of the system. During the Horus Heresy, the capital was largely spared, although Calth and the Shadow Crusade devastated other parts of Ultramar. Later conflicts involving the Black Legion and the Death Guard have treated Macragge as a primary objective. Marneus Calgar’s title, Lord of Macragge, refers to authority over the whole system rather than a single city.

The Macragge System remains central to Ultramar because the realm’s other worlds depend on it as their governing and defensive centre. In the unofficial fan maps that this site uses, the system is filed under the ultramar-subsector parent, and Calth is placed in its own Veridian system.
