Metalica

Forge World Metalica is an Adeptus Mechanicus forge world in the Charadon sector whose economy and identity rest on the extraction and working of metal. Its original biosphere was stripped away long ago to feed the world’s foundries and manufactoria, and the Mechanicus priesthood that governs it holds that Metalica is now composed of metal in substance as well as purpose. From these works flow shells, weapons and armaments in a volume sufficient, by the forge’s own reckoning, to sustain roughly half the war fronts active in its stretch of the sector.

That output has made Metalica a repeated target. Accounts describe a machine-phage known as the Nemesis Wurm, left in the forge’s systems by the Death Guard traitor Typhus, which resurfaces on a cycle of roughly seven years and forces the Mechanicus to renew its purges of infected cogitators and servitors. Orks and Necrons have separately pressed attacks on the world, drawn by its industry or by grievances of their own, and each incursion has been met by Metalica’s Skitarii legions, whose iron-grey wargear and uncompromising discipline are themselves a mark of the forge’s character.

Metalica stands apart from Mars, the archetype against which every forge world is measured, most visibly in its refusal of the red livery that marks the Martian priesthood and its adepts elsewhere. Within the Charadon sector, Metalica’s output ties it closely to the sector’s broader campaigns, including the conflicts around Charadon itself, where Imperial forces contesting Ork, Necron and Chaos incursions have depended on the forge’s munitions to remain in the field. This makes Metalica less an isolated stronghold than a working contemporary of the sector’s other embattled worlds, bound to them by supply line as much as by shared threat.

In the current era Metalica continues to operate under standing siege protocols, its foundries kept running through recurring machine-curse and recurring invasion alike. Its status among Mechanicus forges rests less on ceremony than on endurance: a world that has traded its biosphere and, at times, its safety for a rate of production the surrounding war fronts have come to rely upon.
