Typhus

Typhus, formerly Calas Typhon, is the First Captain of the Death Guard and a Herald of Nurgle, commander of the plague fleet Terminus Est. Once a trusted officer of the primarch Mortarion during the Horus Heresy, he is reckoned among the Death Guard’s most feared servants of the Plague God, ruling a flotilla of contagion-bearing vessels known as the Destroyer Hive.

As Calas Typhon, he served as First Captain of the Death Guard and Lord of Virulence under Mortarion, a native of the primarch’s own world of Barbarus who fought at his side through the Isstvan atrocities that opened the Horus Heresy. In the Legion’s long decline into Nurgle’s worship, Typhon is recorded as opening a sealed vault holding a plague-relic of unknown age and releasing its contents upon his own crew rather than contain it, an act later Death Guard tradition treats as Nurgle’s working through him. He alone rose from the ruin of that ship transfigured, taking the name Typhus, receiving the scythe called the Manreaper as a gift of his patron god, and assuming command of the corrupted battle-barge Terminus Est and the wider fleet of hulks and cruisers that became known as the Destroyer Hive.

Typhus ranks among the Death Guard’s most feared commanders, answering to Mortarion while holding near-autonomous authority over the Destroyer Hive’s wanderings through the warp. During the Plague Wars that followed the opening of the Great Rift, he carried the fleet’s contagion into Ultramar, seeding the Five Hundred Worlds and the shrine world of Iax with the so-called Zombie Plague as part of Mortarion’s invasion of Roboute Guilliman’s realm. He remains active in the present era, one of the named commanders through whom Nurgle’s Rot continues to spread across the Death Guard’s theatres of war.
