Fuegan

Fuegan, called the Burning Lance, is the Aeldari Phoenix Lord who founded the Fire Dragons on the principle that destruction can be directed. His doctrine holds that harmony may be achieved through selected fire, and it opposes the indiscriminate oblivion associated with the Fall. Craftworld depictions show him holding the serpents of wisdom and entropy, an image that reflects his reputation for pursuing a target until it is reduced to ash. Aspect Warriors who walk his path wear dragon-masked helms and carry fusion weaponry patterned on his own wargear, the Fire Axe of Volcanus and a wrist-mounted firepike.

When Arhra, the Fallen Phoenix Lord and first master of the Fire Dragons shrine, burned the Shrine of Asur and turned against his own creation, Fuegan refused to withdraw from the flames and stood in defence of what Arhra had abandoned. For this defiance he was disregarded by the other Phoenix Lords for several centuries afterwards, a period in which he is recorded as withdrawing to the lesser shrines rather than seeking their favour.

Fuegan returned to Aeldari affairs at Haranshemash, fighting alongside the farseer Eldrad Ulthran of Craftworld Ulthwé, where he used the pike from which his title derives to destroy daemon lords sent against the Aeldari host. He subsequently entered the webway as though its passages were a hunting ground, a campaign that placed him among the few Phoenix Lords willing to operate beyond the bounds of the craftworlds entirely. Among his contemporaries are Asurmen, first of the Phoenix Lords and founder of the Path of the Warrior, and Karandras, whose Striking Scorpions share Fuegan’s preference for a single, decisive strike over open battle.

According to Aeldari tradition, Fuegan will summon the Phoenix Lords to the Rhana Dandra, the prophesied final battle that is held to close the era of the Aeldari, and he is said to be the last of their number to die. Until that summons he appears only when a cause is judged sufficiently precise, after which he withdraws into obscurity and leaves his shrine to maintain the sequence of burnings kept in his name. His present status is recorded as active but withdrawn, answering no craftworld’s call except by his own reckoning of a fire’s worth.
