Moriana

Moriana is a seer recorded in the service of Abaddon the Despoiler, associated with the Black Legion and the Eye of Terror, and described as a Null. She belongs to the circle of counsellors and instruments around the Warmaster of Chaos in the forty-first millennium, and her role is that of a foreteller rather than a field commander.

The designation of Null is unusual for a seer. Nulls, sometimes called Pariahs or Blanks, are individuals who suppress or negate warp-based power in their vicinity, whereas prophecy is ordinarily the work of psykers who draw on the warp. Accounts of Moriana therefore rest on an apparent contradiction, and the manner in which she foresees events, and at whose direction, is not settled in the record that Orrery draws upon. Her origins, her age and the circumstances by which she came into Abaddon’s service are likewise not firmly established, and this dossier does not supply them.

Her standing derives from her proximity to Abaddon, whose Black Crusades issue from the Eye of Terror, the region of warp-storm that forms the Black Legion’s base of operations. Within that setting she is best understood as a minor but distinctive figure among Abaddon’s contemporaries, notable chiefly for combining two attributes that are normally opposed. Her present status is unknown, and readers should treat any more detailed biography with caution until it can be reconciled with established canon.
